They had been married 47 years and she had had eight children, of whom, only six were then living. He was 73 years old and born in Dundee, Forfarshire.2

Robert Murray Cheyne died on 19 June 1923.12

Effects £551 3s. 9d.".13

In 1839, he and three other ministers were sent to Palestine on a mission of inquiry to the condition of the Jews. Upon their return, their official report for the Board of Mission of the Church of Scotland was published as Narrative of a Visit to the Holy Land and Mission of Inquiry to the Jews. He was a preacher, a pastor, a poet, and wrote many letters. He was also a man of deep piety and a man of prayer. He never married.2

Robert Murray McCheyne was listed on the 1841 Scotland Census, at Stramberry Bank, in Dundee Parish, Forfar, Angus, Scotland. He was head of household and a clergyman. Also in the household were Marjory Richardson, 25, probably a cousin and James Roddick, 9, his mother's great-nephew (therefore his cousin, once removed).
